The need for safety on US highways grows in proportion
to the growth in vehicles on the road and the growth in traffic
accidents.
- The number of registered vehicles in the US grew by 4.5 million
(2.2 percent) in the year 2000, rising to 217,293 million.
- The number of auto accidents increased at an even higher rate
(3.9 percent), rising to over 6.3 million annually.
The U-Turn Signal provides safety by warning, and this safety is
recognizably needed.
- Over 54,000 car accidents occur each year while a vehicle is
conducting a U-turn, and the principle cause of these wrecks is
lack of second-driver regognition of the turning vehicle's full
intention.
- These accidents cause an average of over 16,000 injuries every
year, and caused 184 deaths in 1999.
